Salmon is a great ingredient for many easy healthy recipes

11313152780_89239-1.jpgWe all know that there are certain foods which are healthier for you than others but sometimes it is hard to choose these options when you think they’re going to be less tasty and less satisfying and that is why it is really important that people know just how delicious and easy healthy recipes can be.
Basic principles apply to healthy eating such as knowing which meats and fishes are fattier and higher in cholesterol, eating a balanced diet and making sure we take in at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day. It is no good starving yourself or just eating fruit and vegetables because the body can go into survival mode and store the fat you already have in your body in reserves making it extremely hard to shift.
Instead, think about the amount you are eating (on other words portion control) and make sure you are getting vitamins, good fats (found in things like nuts, seeds, avocado and oily fish), calcium, protein and carbohydrates. This doesn’t have to be complicated and once you know which foods fall into which food category you’ll be almost all the way to completely changing the way you see food and to a new and healthier you.
There are certain basic foods which can form the basis for many easy healthy recipes, ingredients such as salmon, chicken, brown rice and pasta and vegetables and choosing something like a salmon recipe instead of a recipe which is full of cheese, red meat or simple carbohydrates (such as sugar), can make the difference between feeling sluggish and low in energy after eating to feeling satisfied but full of energy and with glowing skin and healthy hair and nails. One great salmon recipe which is simple and easy as easy to cook for the whole family as it is to cook for you is salmon fillets with watercress and baby new potatoes.
Simply buy the right number of good quality salmon fillets and pan fry these in olive oil until the skin is crispy and the salmon is cooked through but still pink, this should take around four minutes on either side. Add lime juice for the last two or three minutes and serve with new potatoes and wilted watercress for a really tasty, delicious and healthy meal.
Easy healthy recipes are often based around salmon or chicken because these are naturally lean and low in fat and as long as they’re served with equally as healthy ingredients they can bring together fulfilling and hearty meals for the whole family.

Keep Fit For Life At Any Age

f_21310678085_holiday-weight-loss.jpgScientists now know that it’s usually more dangerous to not stay active, no matter how old you are. And you don’t need to buy special clothes or belong to a gym to become more physical.

Most people don’t get enough physical activity. Here are some reasons why they should:

* Lack of physical activity and not eating the right foods, taken together, are the second greatest inherent cause of death in the United States. (Smoking is the number one cause.)

* Physical exercise can help people feel right and enjoy life more.

* Regular exercise can halt or put off some diseases like cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. It can also perk up your mood can be a direct result along with helping depression.

* Being active can help people stay independent and able to keep doing things like getting around or dressing themselves as they get older.

There are four types of physical activies you need to do to have the right assortment of physical activities.

1. Get at least 30 minutes of activity that makes you breathe harder on most or all days of the week. That’s called “endurance activity,- because it builds your energy or “staying power.- You don’t have to be active for 30 minutes all at once. Ten minutes of endurance activity at a time is fine. Just make sure those 10-minute sessions add up to a total of 30 minutes most days.

How hard do you need to exercise? The right level of effort is described this way: If you can talk while exercising without any trouble at all, you’re not working hard enough. If you can’t talk at all, it’s way too hard.

2. Keep using your muscles. When muscles aren’t used, they waste away at any age. How important is it to have “enough- muscle? Very! Muscles step-up your metabolism, allowing you to burn off more calories during the day when your body is at rest. Using your muscles may also make your bones stronger, too.

3. Do things to help your balance. Every now and then walk heel-to-toe. When you walk this way, the toes of the foot in back should almost touch the heel of the foot in front.

4. Stretch. Stretching can help keep you flexible and will be able to move more freely. Stretch when your muscles have warmed up. Never stretch so far that it hurts.

So, make physical activity a part of your everyday life. Find things you enjoy. Go for brisk walks. Ride a bike. Dance. Work around the house and in the yard, take care of your garden, climb the stairs, or rake your leaves. Regular day to day chores around the hous can keep you moving and active.

Exercise Ball Exercises

21310677218_weight-loss-2.jpgThe Exercise ball is one of the best and unique fitness tools that is out there today. It is also one of the least utilized pieces of equipment. Aquilino Cosani, an Italian engineer, first manufactured the ball to be a toy back in 1963. It wasn’t until a physical therapist, Mary Quinton, utilized the ball for children with neurological disorders. The exercise ball did not make it to the US until the 1970 and it seems that the general public is just starting to get aware of its benefits.
What makes the Exercise ball so effective is that it forces the user to use many stabilizing muscle to balance while performing the exercise. This means that more muscle fibers are firing, you are burning more calories and because of the position that you are usually in, it puts a lot of emphasis on your core (rectus abdominis, lower back, transverse abdominis, internal and external oblique’s.) And everyone seems to want to have tight abs.
The reason why I wanted to write this article was for one of two reasons.

In fact this piece of equipment is not only useful to those who already doing yoga regularly but for those who are only just starting to use it. Exercise balls are unstable for obvious reasons. Using an exercise ball can be quite fun. The difficulty comes from the balls roundness, which also contribute to giving you a tremendous workout. To hopefully motivate to try the exercise ball the next time at the gym or to try an exercise on the stability besides crunches. That is what I meant when I previously stated that this was one of the most least utilized pieces of equipment at the gym. The exercise ball happens to be one most dynamic pieces of equipment at that gives you a huge range of exercise options.
One example would be a basic squat. Position the exercise ball between your lower back and the wall. Move your feet out about 8 to 12 inches. When you squat you want three 90 degree angles. These 90 angles are at your hips, knees and ankles. Your shins and upper body is to be perpendicular and your thighs parallel with the ground.
If this sounds too easy add dumbbells for weight.
If adding dumbbell weight is still too easy, extend one leg out and perform single leg squats. There are few people that I know who have the leg strength for this exercise.
A pushup is another exercise that there are multiple options that can per formed with an exercise ball. You can perform this exercise with your hands on the exercise ball and feet on the ground. Added difficulty would be to place your feet on a bench and keeping your hands on the exercise ball.
You can also place your hands on the ground and feet or knees on the exercise ball. To add difficultly you can try diamond push-ups or traveling push-ups. Traveling push-ups is where you move side to side while performing the push-up. You start by doing a normal push-up and then at the top, move the left hand to the right. The right hand then goes out further to the right. You would perform another push-up and move back to the left by moving your right hand to the left and then the left further to the left.
These are just two small examples. There are many, many more. I would like to invite you to do some further investigation on this and try a few of the exercises out. There are thousands of examples out there. The benefits will be a stronger core, possibly quicker weight loss and make your body more functional and less prone to injury.

Cardiovascular Exercise

01310677218_weight-loss-7.jpgWhether your goal is to lose weight, relieve stress, or just be healthier, cardiovascular exercises are undoubtedly the most important kind of exercise. These exercises are called cardiovascular because they exercise the heart and lungs, boosting oxygen transportation and consumption. This article will explore the many different kinds of cardiovascular exercises, both indoor and outdoor.

Indoor Cardio

Ideally we’d spend more time outside, particularly when exercising, but unfortunately we cannot always get outside. Luckily, then, there are many indoor options for cardiovascular exercises, many different machines which simulate activities you might find yourself doing outside where you have room to move around.

Elliptical Trainer: These are machines which simulate jogging or running by letting your knees bend and legs move back and forth without actually bringing your feet off the ground.

It is also known as aerobic exercise as you are using several large groups of muscles together at the same time. Best Fat Burning Cardiovascular Exercises – 6 Power Workouts That Work

A flat stomach can be achieved by doing different kinds of exercises. Cardiovascular exercises are some of the types of exercises that can help in getting your stomach flattened. This article will guide you on how to do cardiovascular exercises that help you get the flat stomach of your dreams. Note – it is important that these exercises be carried out in the proper ways, to get the best results thereof. Many people must use the elliptical trainer instead of jogging because the impact of running can cause problems for their knees. Since you never have to take your feet of the machine, there is no impact on your knees and you can experience a very comfortable, low impact running experience.

Exercise Bike: Just like the elliptical trainer, exercise bikes are great for people who cannot put too much stress on their legs. Most exercise bikes have adjustable resistance, so you can get a pretty strenuous workout while you’re sitting in one spot watching TV.

Rowing Machines: These machines are often overlooked but they provide a tremendous way to improve your cardiovascular strengthen as well as strengthen the muscles in your arms, legs, chest and abs.
These machines simulate the movements involved in a rowing a boat, which is something many of us have no way of actually doing. If you’re doing cardiovascular exercise to lose weight, then the rowing machine should be of particular interest to you because it not only burns a lot of calories but the abdominal aspect of it will help you lose belly fat and tone your stomach simultaneously.

Stair Climbing: There are machines that stimulate climbing stairs, but if we’re talking about indoor activities, climbing real stairs also applies. The great thing about climbing stairs is how easily it can be incorporated into your daily routine. Many of us take countless elevator rides every single day, you can imagine how opting for the stairs can really add up to some significant calorie burning over the course of an entire day, week, or month. You don’t need to always take the stairs, but the more times you can fit a little bit of cardiovascular exercise into your day the better off you are.

This is probably the most important tip to cardiovascular exercise; we are surrounded by conveniences and luxuries that allow us to exercise less than we’d otherwise have to. By refusing some of these modern conveniences you can burn a lot of calories without actually having to take a chunk of time out of your day to exercise. This could mean getting off the bus a few stops early, taking the stairs, skipping the moving sidewalks at the airport, walking on the escalators, or hand-delivering a letter.

Outdoor Cardio

Swimming: We’ll start with swimming because this is undoubtedly the most well-rounded and effective cardio exercise. This could also qualify as an indoor activity, though it is often much more invigorating to swim out on a lake or ocean. Swimming for just twenty minutes a day can burn up to five hundred calories, and it exercises all kinds of muscles that you don’t normally use. Many people like to swim in the morning because it’s a great way to get some exercise in before you’re worn out from the day, and it really wakes you up and gets you focused on the day ahead.

Walking: It was already mentioned how getting off the bus a few stops early can be a good way to incorporate a little exercise. Walking is actually a deceptively good exercise, many people think you need to be running to be exercising but going for a brisk walk can burn significant calories. Therefore if you don’t have recourse to incorporate walking into your normal routine you should book off some time to go for a brisk walk through a park.  Either way, walking gives you that little bit of exercise that you need every day to maintain your cardiovascular health. Walking also provides a really valuable time to get away from the rigors of your day and have some time to yourself to think things over, or it could be a time to have a long conversation with a friend or family member.

Other obvious types of outdoor cardio involve running and cycling, though the same principles basically apply to these as to the indoor versions. For cycling it is important to keep your back straight and not to overly strain your legs, you may want to confirm with a fitness or cycling expert that you have your bike adjusted properly. Running is the classic cardio exercise, and doesn’t require much explanation except to note that running on hard surfaces such as concrete can be tough on the knees; running on grass has the benefit of being softer. You could also try running on sand, this provides a very challenging run and is relatively soft on the knees. One last thing about running is that you should avoid high traffic areas. Breathing in car exhaust as you’re running should definitely be avoided if possible as this can defeat the purpose of a nice outdoor run.

While cardiovascular exercises are vital to the maintenance of good health remember that weight training is also essential to physical fitness.  Opt for three cardio sessions a week and another two weight training days if possible.  If you’re pressed for time though you can always try to fit in a little cardio and weight training in the same session

Fitness Resort

01310677592_dsc00107.jpgWhen many people think of a world class resort, they imagine round-the-clock pampering, expansive gourmet meals and all kinds of recreational activities. But there is a new kind of five-star resort and that is the Fitness Resort. Places where one used to go to lose weight were unflatteringly called fat farms in the past. They were more like torture camps, than anything that could be called a resort. The more modern approach is to create diet intensive experiences, combined with physical activities and nutritional counseling that are designed for participation in beautiful resort settings. If one wishes to look more like the beautiful people, then why not be in a setting that is of the level of quality where beautiful people like to congregate?

The Fitness Resort setting is designed in such as way to be motivational, calming, and restorative.

Hoodia Side Effects : The Good and the Bad News About Hoodia

f_11310677832_healthyfood1.jpgAnyone who is seriously considering a new diet pill or alternative weight loss product should for good practice become fully informed about its short and long term side effects, and in combination with other drugs. Most weight conscious people today are aware of hoodia gordonii and its incredible appetite suppressing ability. But unfortunately most people are not fully aware of hoodia’s potential long term side effects.

The Good News

The good news about hoodia gordonii is that so far it has demonstrated no short-term harmful side effects. There have been no reports of dangerous side effects from consumers in the West who have taken hoodia. Volunteers who have participated in small group formal testing on hoodia have proven that pure hoodia when taken regularly at an optimal dosage–between 750mg and 1500mg–were eventually eating 1,000 calories less daily in comparison to the control group. In addition, in animal experiments, hoodia has been able to reduce food consumption by as much as 40 percent.

The Bad News

Since it’s yet too early in hoodia gordonii’s overall history in relation to modern consumers, no studies have yet been conducted for evaluating its possible side effects on a long term basis. Until clinical trials are administered on a reasonable large and random group of varying racial makeup, we would not know for the time being what potential side effects hoodia gordonii may have on pregnant mothers, on young obese children, or anyone with chronic conditions like liver, kidney, or heart disease.

Another point to bear in mind is that so far the only harmful side effects by taking hoodia are brought about through abuse or misuse. For example, someone who suffers from an eating disorder may find him or her-self in harm’s way after taking hoodia for several weeks. How? Their health may suffer from a lack of proper nutrients when they do not feel like eating. Appetite suppression can cause unknown damages to your body. So how does one prevent this from occurring? Here’s a simple preventative measure: compliment hoodia with a well-balanced diet and daily exercise.
